Morley, L. and Aynsley, S. “Employers, Quality and Standards in Higher Education: Shared Values and Vocabularies or Elitism and Inequalities?” Higher Education Quarterly 61 (2007): 229–249.
This paper examined employers’ use of quality and standards in higher education to recruit graduates and make hiring decisions. Reporting on the investigation of employers’ needs, Morley and Aynsely (2007) factored in the reputation of the institutions and the knowledge that they look for, noting employers’ practice of looking at institution rankings as a measure of quality. They presented a correlation between a hierarchy of labor market opportunities and stratified system of higher education.
